An intermittent straight catheter is a thin, flexible tube inserted into the bladder through the urethra to drain urine. It has a straight (non-curved) tip and is designed for one-time use and then disposal. These catheters are typically used by individuals who experience urinary retention or need assistance with bladder emptying, either on a short- or long-term basis. Unlike indwelling catheters, they are not left in place.
